Tenant Handbook
Window Blinds
Window Blinds are part of your buildings “skin”
The active engagement of building tenant and office occupants is key in optimizing the energy performance of a building throughout the seasons. You, as the user really can have an impact on your building’s energy use. This is especially important in a tall ceiling glass curtain wall building like 200 Clarendon. Knowing your orientation in the building is the first step to managing your blinds and helping your building reduce energy use.
Strategies to use:
-
Reduce solar gain when the building is being mechanically cooled
-
Reduce heat loss when the building is being heated (at night all orientations)
-
Close generally on the East in the AM and West in the PM
-
Balance the need for daylight with the heat gain and glare (does your tenant space have dimming perimeter lighting responding to daylight sensors?)
Summer:
North – Open AM & PM
South – Closed/or/Open AM & Open PM
East - Closed AM & Open PM
West - Open AM & Closed PM
Winter:
All-Closed at night (to reduce heat loss after hours)
North – Open AM & Close after 5:00 PM
South –Open AM & Close after 5:00 PM
East - Closed AM & Open PM
West - Open AM & Closed PM
Spring and Fall:
All-Open at night (for free cooling)
North – Open AM & PM
South – Closed/or/Open AM & Open PM
East - Closed AM & Open PM
West - Open AM & Closed PM
